In my 30+ years experience- I can say the 3 major causes of any ignition modules' failure are heat, corrosion, and a poor ground- 1 usually leading to the other 2. Without a clean & proper grounding of the unit & the area of it's mounting- the mere normal operation will quickly shorten the life, power, and reliability of any electrical component. Preperation of the old mounting surface is crucial. A good penatrating oil, wire brush or sandpaper, followed by an aresol cleaner solvent, wipe dry- then apply a THIN FILM of a Dialectric grease to conduct a good ground & help prevent corrosion- will lead to the module running cooler, handling it's rated current load, and lasting longer all around.
