Product Description

Class A/B Topology

A class A/B amplifier uses two groups of transistors and it is generally considered to be the best compromise of the two classes - A and B - put together. A pure class A amplifier typically has an enormous amount of current flowing through its output transistors with no audio signal. A pure class B amplifier has no current flowing through its outputs with no audio signal. A class A/B amplifier is much more efficient than a class A, but without the possible distortion of a class B.

MOSFET Power Supply

A Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor is a transistor used for amplifying or switching electronic signals, found in systems where information is processed or stored. We use them in our computers, telephones, game consoles, cars, electrical appliances, and, in this case, amplifiers. A MOSFET is basically an electrical switch with two possible states - on or off - that allows the flow of electrical current. The MOSFET performs its most important role in our D Class amplifiers by allowing or preventing the flow of power and creating an efficient amplifier.

Low And High Level Inputs

There are two different ways that you can get a signal into RIOT series amplifiers: high and low level input. Low level input is measured in voltages and comes in the form of RCA outputs from the back of your receiver, going to the RCA inputs on your amplifier. High level input is measure in wattages, and comes in the form of one positive and one negative wire from the back of your receiver, going to the input terminal of your amplifier in the same wire form. Low-level (RCA) input wiring is preferred for best audio performance. Always use a high-quality RCA cable for the best audio performance. NOTE: Do not connect both the high and low level inputs from your receiver to your amplifier at the same time.

Variable Crossover

Speakers reproduce sound based on high, low, or mid-range frequencies. This process is called the crossover effect, and it occurs because many audio systems cannot cover the entire spectrum sufficiently to minimize sound distortion and maintain an appropriate frequency ratio. With the R1600M amplifier, a variable crossover is offered so that you have the ability to set the frequency at which the crossover occurs. You can set specific sound specifications such as the bass, mid-range, and high frequency reproduction.

Variable Bass Boost

With the R1600M amplifier, you get variable bass boost. This feature gives you control of exactly how much bass you want to pump out to your subwoofers, whereas with regular bass boost you would either have extra bass, or not.

Boss Audio R1600M Mosfet Monoblock Power Amplifier with Remote Subwoofer Level Control Review

i bought this amp at the beginning of august to power a 10" infinity reference 250w subwoofer. After doing some research I found out that boss greatly overrates their amps on wattages, so I went for this 350w rms one even though I only needed 250. Its decent. good for the money. for some reason my ground connection went bad after a month but i wired it differently and it's back up and running. Only complaints i have is that the bass isnt always very clean, and it should be moving the sub more at the power rating it was given. In the end I wished i had saved a bit more and gotten an alpine/kenwood
