The aFe Inverted Replacement Filter (IRF) is constructed with 100 percent polyurethane on all sides. This high flow, oiled �inverted replacement performance filter will out flow stock paper filter by 33 percent� for improved horsepower and torque. This is the largest filter that can fit into the factory air intake box. � The Pro 5R is constructed of five layers of progressively finer mesh cotton gauze media providing maximum airflow for best performance results. Washable and reusable for multiple cleaning cycles, the tall open evenly space pleats provide excellent dust holding capacity for longer service cycle between cleanings. Integrated urethane bump seal insures tight, no leak seal over the life of the filter.

Installed this today on my 2012 Mustang V6 MCA Performance Package, and the first thing that struck me was the build quality. It is very well constructed, and extremely solid, enough that it will probably outlast the car. The fit was also spot on, and the filter went into the stock airbox snugly and precisely.

A little quick and dirty math tells me the aFe IRF has about 40% more filter area than a flat OE unit. That combined with the better flowing media means it flows better than stock, and possibly as well as a CAI. The benefits of this being that you keep the stock look, you don't have to fool with removing parts from the engine bay and re-routing harnesses, and it is truly a "cold" air intake as the stock box is sealed from the engine compartment and draws air through the grille.

I've not dyno'ed my car, but the throttle response is slightly improved, and the engine breathes much better, especially at high RPM. Time will tell if the mileage improves, but I will be watching that and reporting back.

On a side note, I had to call aFe since I wasn't sure if it came oiled (it does, that's the blue stuff) and the response was friendly, helpful and very fast. This a company that certainly values and understands their customers.

If you are on the fence about installing a CAI like I was, get this instead. All of the benefits, none of the drawbacks, and certainly more affordable. Given that this is about the same price as the vaunted K&N flat panel, it was a no brainer for me.
